Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his first title for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a challenging season, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's first championship since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court after March of 2023.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has won 21 victories at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters together, so to secure a title is particularly special," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, comprising in Halle in the past months.

The player's retrieving play style and recurring reactions on court had led commentators to wonder if his capacity to play at the highest level was concluded.

However the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

The champion came back from a break down in the first set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the last five games to go ahead.

Both players traded break points in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial tour victory, seized the initiative to create a final set.

He rescued four initial chances in a close third set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
